TikToker Wes Thompson (@darthvedder1138) shared a seasoning conserving practice that culminated in his favorite spice. And he wants to know if other TikTokers are doing the same.
In a video that has gathered more than 830,000 views, he revealed his approach to seasoning. Many other users on the platform are supportive of his concept.
One grip to govern them all
"Is there anyone else here with something like this?" Thompson asks, raising a plastic container brimming with a spice blend. However, he quickly clarifies that what he has isn't just a single spice, but a mixture of various spices combined together.
As Thompson nears the conclusion of a seasoning jar, he pours the leftover bits into a plain bottle. This results in a unique blend of various spices and scents, forming a flavorful concoction. “It’s all fair game—salt, pepper, Old Bay, cayenne, you name it. Curry or any other seasoning I have on hand, it all goes in,” he explains.
He continues to mention additional seasoning options that have found their way into the container. "Take Mrs. Dash, for example. When I reach the bottom and there's just a bit remaining, I pour it all into this."
In the end, he ends up with a versatile super seasoning. “As time passes, it transforms into a blend of around 100 various spices. It evolves into the perfect rub. This is the rub I love the most.”
Thompson wraps up by inquiring, "Is there anyone else who engages in this?"
TikTok users are in agreement.
Many other users mentioned that they were either already participating in the same activity or intended to start soon. One person humorously remarked, "What a funny coincidence, I just began doing this around 10 minutes ago."
Yet someone mentioned they engage in a comparable practice using various types of spirits. “Dude, I do the exact same thing with my bourbons and scotches. I own a decanter filled with a mix of numerous whiskeys. While some refer to it as an infinity bottle, I prefer to call it my ‘house blend.’”
Some people mentioned that they incorporate spices as well. "My father prepares this and refers to it as his Season Salt. I jokingly call it his Frankendust."
One individual fondly recalled their partner's similar habits. “My husband used to do just that. I would often ask him, ‘Sweetheart, what’s this made of?’ He’d grin and respond, ‘Darling…EVERYTHING.’ I miss him so much. He
