If your vehicle is looking grimy, you may feel inclined to just pull into the closest car wash to give it a good clean.
As several drivers on the internet have shared, this isn’t always the best idea. For example, one internet user claimed that taking her car through a car wash left it with significant scratches. Another claimed that a car wash scratched her car’s infotainment system, while a further stated that taking their car through a car wash destroyed its wrap.
Upon observing this, some might question how a service meant for car cleaning could actually cause harm. In a viral video that has garnered more than 3.7 million views, TikTok user @tweakerhunter2 provides an explanation.
What are the reasons to steer clear of these car washes?
In his video, the TikToker showcases the inside of an automatic car wash that uses friction for cleaning.
"If you're planning to clean your car, here's why you should avoid these types of car washes," he clarifies.
As the footage progresses, he shifts the camera's focus to one of the brushes at the car wash, revealing a significant buildup of dirt and grime on its surface.
"Imagine a truck rolling in, covered in mud," he begins. "Look at all those rocks and sand. That's exactly what's going to splatter against your car, slamming into the side of that beauty at around 95 miles per hour."
What causes this to occur?
Typically, car wash professionals indicate that incidents like this should not happen, although they do happen from time to time.
