There's no question about it: The Suzuki Jimny is the coolest new affordable 4x4 SUV we still haven't gotten in America. For those not already aware, it's a successor to Suzuki's highly popular and capable Samurai line of off-roaders. The new model's boxy design alludes to its incredible off-road capabilities, cheekily referencing the looks of the legendary Mercedes-Benz G Wagen but in a ridiculously downsized package.

But despite hilarious dimensions, the Jimny's design is dead serious, featuring a dedicated ladder-frame chassis with solid front and rear axles and a low-range transfer case fueled by a 1.5-liter four-pot sending 100 hp to all four wheels. On a trail, it will go toe-to-toe with the very best off-roaders such as a Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco. Quite impressive for a vehicle retailing for less than $20,000 in most markets – that is, if you can still find one. As a result of its impressive capabilities and cute looks, the Jimny already has a cult following, so finding one under MSRP is nearly impossible.
Nonetheless, even though it serves as an excellent platform for modifications and boasts extensive aftermarket support, the primary drawback of the Jimny is its compact naturally aspirated engine, which is designed for the Japanese Kei car category.
That's why a South Africa-based tuner company, SG Performance, is selling a complete mod kit that turns the Jimny into a mini off-road monster and makes it the perfect all-around adventure 4x4.
