To be more precise, she mentions that you should keep them in the soil for approximately two years or until they produce flower stalks. After they have bloomed, allow them to mature and turn brown to seed. Finally, shake the flowers to gather the seeds that fall out. 

"You'll have the ability to cultivate carrots from your own seeds annually," she mentions.
